Job Description

We are looking for a motivated Power Market Analyst with one or more of the following skills: (1) foundational knowledge of U.S. power markets, with a specific focus on ERCOT and CAISO, (2) technical proficiency in Python and SQL, and (3) power flow modeling capabilities. This is an entry-level to early-career role with growth potential, including the opportunity to transition into a trading role. The analyst will support data analysis, model development, and trading strategy preparation to drive insights across multiple U.S. power markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Market Data Analysis: Support the analysis of ERCOT, CAISO, and other U.S. power market data, focusing on price trends, congestion, and demand forecasts to drive decision-making.
• Power Flow Modeling: Apply power flow modeling techniques to analyze grid conditions, helping to identify congestion patterns and trading opportunities in the virtual markets.
• Data Management & Reporting: Perform data extraction, cleaning, and preliminary analysis from multiple sources, creating reports and visualizations to communicate market insights.
• Learning & Development: Engage in hands-on learning about trading strategies, power market structures, and advanced modeling techniques with the goal of advancing into a trading role.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Economics, or a related field is required; an advanced degree (Master’s or higher) is preferred.

Experience: 1-2 years in power markets, data analysis, or a related analytical role; experience with ERCOT, CAISO, or other U.S. power markets is a plus.

Technical Skills:

• Programming: Basic proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis and automation; a willingness to develop technical skills further.
• Data Visualization: Familiarity with data visualization tools such as HEX is a plus.
• Industry Tools: Exposure to power flow modeling, Yes Energy or similar energy market tools is a bonus.

Analytical & Quantitative Skills: Basic understanding of statistical analysis and modeling; strong numerical and problem-solving skills.

Multi-Market Awareness: General interest or foundational knowledge of ERCOT, CAISO, and other U.S. power markets and market dynamics.

Growth Mindset: Eagerness to learn about trading strategies, market behavior, and analytics with a focus on career development.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certifications: Relevant coursework or certifications in data science, energy markets, or quantitative analysis.
• Advanced Skills: Basic knowledge of machine learning, optimization techniques, or risk assessment is beneficial but not required.
• Communication Skills: Ability to clearly present findings and work collaboratively in a remote setting.
